How To Choose the Best Quality Speaker Stands

Speaker Stands
You have spent thousands of dollars on a home theater setup that includes an exceptional surround sound system; now all you need is some high quality speaker stands to complete your home theater. Though it may not be apparent, the speaker stands that you choose for your surround sound system can influence the quality of your sound.
When you are shopping for high quality speaker stands there are a few things that you should look for to ensure that you are getting stands that will provide you with the best possible base for your speakers.
• When shopping for speaker stands, make sure that you choose stands that are constructed from steel tubing. The steel tubing should be circular, square, or rectangular in cross-section.
• The speaker stands should have a flat top plate on which the speaker sits.
• The base plate will need to have three or four adjustable spikes. This feature allows you to level the speaker.
• The spikes on the base of the speaker should have the ability to go through carpet, as well as go into the wooden or concrete floor beneath the carpet. This is important, as it will help to eliminate vibration being transferred to the speaker from the floor, which could reduce your sound quality.
• Speaker stands should be stiff and heavy in order to keep the speakers in place, and reduce the chance of them falling. In addition to this, if the speaker stands have a lot of motion to them this could damage your speakers eventually, as well as reduce your sound quality.
• The top base plate of the speaker stand should also have small, plastic or rubber pads to help keep the speaker from sliding around on the stand due to the vibration of sound. Most high quality speaker stands will come with this feature, but if not you can use tacky strips to keep the speaker in place. This is especially important for home theater systems where there is likely to be more vibration.
• Look for speaker stands that will put your speakers at the right height for optimal sound quality. You will need stands that will put the speakers at about ear level when you are in a seated position.
The main purpose of speakers stands is to help eliminate vibration and to place the speakers in the correct position for the best sound quality. High quality speaker stands will do this by providing you with a sturdy base that can be anchored to the floor; in addition, the speaker stands should be of solid construction.
Though you will likely find cheap speaker stands, in most cases these stands are not built solidly enough to eliminate vibration, and they may even be flimsy enough to allow the speaker stand to fall. If you want the best quality speaker stands, they should have all of the above features.
High quality speaker stands for your surround sound system are not too difficult to find if you know what to look for.
